In response to the rapidly changing information and circumstances with respect to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the City's primary recommendation to slow the spread of the coronavirus is to reduce close contact with others, modify, cancel or postpone events, RAICES is taking this recommendation very seriously.
After careful consideration and deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to end all social activities at our centers/social clubs until further notice. The decision is part of the effort to mitigate the spread of Coronavirus and the security of all our participants and the community at large is of utmost importance. This was not an easy decision, but it was largely based on older adults and people with compromised immune systems facing higher risks of contracting the disease and/or experiencing complications. Also, the CDC declaring that older adults should “stay at home as much as possible” played a key role in our decision.
RAICES’ Board of Directors, Management Team and staff are in agreement that this is necessary to protect the safety and well-being of our staff, participants and community.
Please be assured that we have created a contingency plan which includes ways in which staff will work remotely, remain connected with our participants and monitor their wellbeing during this pandemic.
Our offices will be closed on Friday, March 20th, Tuesday, March 24th, Thursday, March 26th, and Friday, March 27th.
In addition, we have created the following plan regarding the distribution of meals for our participants.
For the Week of March 16 - 20, 2020
On Thursday, March 19th, our participants will receive two "grab & go" meals to distribute for Thursday, March 19th and Friday, March 20th.
For the Week of March 23 - 27, 2020
On Monday, March 23, participants will receive two “grab & go” meals for Monday, March 23rd and Tuesday, March 24th.
On Wednesday, March 25, participants will receive three “grab & go” meals for Wednesday, March 25th, Thursday, March 26th, and Friday, March 27th.
In addition, participants are receiving non-perishable food items from two different sources.
Please note that things are changing hour by hour at RAICES, so this plan is subject to change and will be reassessed on a daily basis.
During this public-health crisis, RAICES continues to be committed to meeting the nutritional and social needs of our older adults while also trying to keep the rest of our staff healthy.
While we are facing unprecedented circumstances, we know that together we will get through this.
Thank you for your continued support.
Be safe and stay healthy.
